Don’t mind me… I’m hittin’ the JUICE!

September 21, 2009 by Joe Gigantino

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. ~World Health Organization, 1948

I’m going to do a little something different this week by sharing cactuswith you my own wellness experience with products that are unlike any I’ve tried before. I’ve never been one to take much more than a multi-vitamin, and even with that, I was hit or miss, eventually not taking any supplements at all. However, that all changed last year when I met someone who offered me a box of Super Sublingual B-12, B-6 & Folic Acid Tablets from a company in Scottsdale, AZ called TriVita. I didn’t think too much of it, but when the mention of possibly helping me retain better focus and increase my energy level, I figured “why not?”- They tasted good and dissolved easily in my mouth.

I started out taking them randomly; then for about a week, I faithfully took one a day, letting them dissolve under my tongue. I wound up finishing the box (30 tablets), and realized that I had more energy, more alertness, and it was a good high, not like a jittery feeling I’d get from Red Bull where I would peak and then crash. I found I was no longer dragging in the afternoon and definitely felt a sense of sharpness – a focused mental energy that allowed me to accomplish more tasks, with less stress than before.

I was so excited about the B-12 that I shared them with my son who played football, knowing he could use all the energy he could muster, both on and off the field. Then last November after I purchased the health club in Los Gatos, I seriously injured my back while moving some heavy equipment. After seeking medical attention, the diagnosis was two herniated discs in my lower back, which progressively got worse. To someone whose life encompasses health and wellness, the severe pain I was experiencing not only hurt me physically, but I suffered emotionally with the thought of no longer being able to do what I enjoy more than anything – keeping fit and teaching others how to do the same!

On a visit to Arizona in December 2008, I ran into the same person who shared the B-12 with me, and she was excited about a new anti-inflammatory product that was in the early development stages at TriVita. When I told her about my back injury, she offered her own “stash” of the wellness drink that didn’t even have a name at the time to see if I would notice any difference in my back pain. She explained to me how inflammation is the root of all degenerative type diseases and the leading cause of pain. Being in the health and fitness business, I am constantly approached by companies offering wellness type drinks, but not one of them compared to the amazing taste of this red drink sweetened with agave nectar that is harvested from the Nopal cactus – right from the Sonoran Desert. The first time I tasted it, I liked it so much, I drank almost the whole bottle! I noticed how the pain in my back was significantly improved the next day, but I was disappointed to hear that I wouldn’t be able to get more until the official launch in March 2009.

My back pain was so severe that over the next couple of months I survived on prescription pain killers, muscle relaxers, and epidural shots just so I could walk. The first epidural shot didn’t work, and it wasn’t until the second shot that I felt any kind of relief. I attempted chiropractic treatments and even acupuncture with no real improvement. It was about this time that I was able to attend the pre-launch in Arizona where TriVita introduced Sonoran Bloom Nopalea.™ I was so excited to hear the scientific studies behind the product that I immediately ordered six cases to be shipped to me in San Jose! I have since been faithfully taking about three ounces a day – 1-1/2 ounces in the morning and 1-1/2 ounces before bed, and I can honestly say that within the first month, I was 100% back to being functional, with about 95% recovery in my back. From being at a point of not being able to walk without excruciating pain to being able to work out again six times a week is truly an answered prayer. The thought of no longer being able to do my workouts or share my fitness expertise with others would be like telling Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts that he can no longer play football!

If you’re thinking you don’t have any inflammation problems, think again – inflammation is at the root of many types of allergies, asthma, cardiovascular issues, arthritis, digestive issues and countless other conditions (even hangovers!). Ladies – did you know that cellulite and wrinkles are inflammation-based?

So if you’ve been dealing with any type of pain and inflammation, I challenge you to give Nopalea a try. I believe you too will be singing the Nopalea praises!
